The Scotland Funds continues to attract support in Scotland and was bolstered by very positive coverage in The Scotsman newspaper including an editorial on 30th November, St Andrew's Day, which said:
"The more the Scottish diaspora is linked to its homeland, the bigger will be the international network to promote the Scottish economy and culture.
Another international initiative worth noting is the creation of the Scotland Fund, to raise money in North America for charities and educational projects in Scotland. The Presiding Officer, George Reid, who is hosting a St Andrew's Day dinner in Vancouver, is helping to spearhead the initiative in Canada. Some might consider it strange that a relatively prosperous country such as Scotland needs foreign charity. That is not the point: this is an exercise in promoting Scotland and building organic links with Scots abroad"
In a major piece in the paper on December 2nd Bill Jamieson concluded:
"The Scotland Funds stands to be an outstanding success. First, it taps into the huge pride and loyalty that Scots Canadians feel for Scotland's heritage, culture and contribution to the world.
Second, it creates the potential for business networking, helping raise the profile of Scottish businesses and Scotland's attractions as a location for investment.
Third is the power of inspiration and example that flows from philanthropy - the help it will give to promote and encourage Scotland's young people and the voluntary sector. It is a great opportunity for Scots of all backgrounds to come together to help others.
The potential of The Scotland Funds is enormous, and one that should not be measured in cash terms alone"
